”Thank you so much for helping us to release the five Doves today at my father's funeral - it really made his final farewell very special - I fell in love with my Dove by the way he/she was so sweet. It was love at first sight for me with the Dove I held, I didn’t want to let it go!! I never realised what beautiful, spiritual creatures they are - they definitely have healing properties. Once you placed the Dove into my hand I stopped crying immediately and felt instantly calmed. I am so glad they arrived home safely (and before you bless them). Some people said they didn’t know you could do such things at funerals and were very touched by the sentiment of it.
Q. Could you remind me please what the five doves represented as people keep asking me and I can’t remember what you said but I know it was very moving?
A. We usually say a few words of introduction or a unique poem as agreed with the family beforehand. On this occasion we said that some of the close family were going to release five doves representing a band of angels which would symbolically accompany the deceased on his final journey. We were also asked if they would get home OK. I assured everyone that they would and later reported back to Christine that they were all home safely.
